Homemade Syrup and French Toast

This homemade syrup was a staple on out breakfast table when my kids were little. Yes, we could have bought bottled, but this was my mama's recipe and my kids loved it so much.
Yields: 2 cups
Syrup Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup warer
1 teaspoon maple flavor
1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavor

Directions:
In a sauce pan, mix all ingredient and bring to a boil on medium high heat. Cook for 1 minute until thickened. Remove from heat. Pour into a bottle or container and serve.
French toast 101
I've made French toast a dozen different ways, but to me, simple is best. Double recipe as needed.

1 to 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
6 slices white or wheat bread
2 eggs
2/3 cup of milk
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
a pinch of salt to taste
Directions:
Heat pan a frying pan, add  enough butter to cover bottom of pan and turn heat to medium. Mix eggs, milk and nutmeg and salt in a bowl. Dip toast on both sides. Don't soak the bread. Add bread to frying pan and cook until lightly golden brown on both sides. Remove and butter to taste. Plate with fruit and serve with homemade syrup.
